I have a 2005 Mustang with only 7000 miles on it. Recently, while driving at 40MPH the accelerator pedal became totally inoperative.
Fortunately I was able to coast to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. After telling this to my Ford dealer I was told not to worry about it and just keep driving, since the check engine light did not come on. Following this event the idle became erratic and then the car went into "limp home" mode. Subsequently the throttle body was replaced.
A review of the Internet revealed many Ford owners have had similar frightening experiences with the accelerator going dead while driving. I hope Ford issues a recall for this problem before its too late for some Ford owners.
